Borat: Very Nice!
Kazakh Tourism: (copy) Very Nice!
Epic.
This is actually how you deal with any form of discrimination, racism and xenophobia. You embrace the discrimination/insult, make it your own and conquer it.
This is why I am constantly strongly against censorship and compelled speech, especially in the realm of racism.
Yes, you can always abuse your authority and power, be it via government legislation or big tech’s monopoly to ban certain words and speech – but you cannot erase the perception and paradigm in the mind of the people.
But incepting a different idea, educating people and sharing a different perspective: would instead make a whole lot more of a tangible difference.
Dont let the “societal definition” of racism bind you to a single minded rage and self-victimization. A bully or an asshole wants nothing more than getting a negative reaction out of you – in fact, thats the entire point at the first place.
Kazakhstan embraces Borat’s ‘Very nice’ catchphrase as official tourism slogan
Kazakhstan has adopted Borat’s “Very nice!” catchphrase as its own, effectively reclaiming what used to be a thorn in its side. The former republic under the Soviet Union bloc had tried hard to distance itself from the first Borat movie 14 years ago.
