[Chaos in Washington D.C.]
Many have seen the chaotic scenes and violence in Washington yesterday as protestors stormed the U.S. Capitol. One woman has been shot and killed. There are reports of other casualties as well.
Many, including many in the media, have condemned the thuggish actions of the protestors.
In Hong Kong, protestors took over the Legislative Council Building in 2019, vandalised it. They were lauded by some as freedom fighters, democracy heroes. Those lauding them include the very same media which now condemns the actions of the Washington protesters.
What explains the different perspectives ?

Shanmugam is highlighting similar circumstances that trigger more or less similar response from the people but covered by the media differently.
He is highlighting #misinformation in the age of #fakenews and #propaganda disguised as #journalism.
Trump NEVER asked anyone to storm the capitol building – and he wouldnt – because it will just weaken his political position doing that. Always look at who will benefit more when certain crimes are committed.
People at Trump’s level (as in hierarchy), do not do stupid things. Everything is strategic and tactical – like a chess game – its art of war. Everyone is making moves to undermine or overwhelm the opposing sides. Trump is not “desperate”.
He got the most votes in the history of the republican party as well as the most votes as the incumbent president – he got a very strong base to work on, even if he loses this election. There is no need for him to “use the supporters” – when he can just call the insurrection act and use the military to impound of the election machines to force an audit.
Trump is the most restrained president I have seen in my life. Every President is quick to go to war or abuse their powers.
But its okay, because you dont follow what happen closely like most people in the world – who have time to read hours of news a day to keep up? – Trump oppositions are betting on that
