Senseless support from the WP supporters in the facebook comments on WP media statement on 11 Feb 2022.
Pritam is OUTRIGHT WRONG to NOT declare to the parliament/speaker that Raeesah lied at the very first opportune moment; and did not open a press conference to announce his “discovery” to the public immediately.
To drag it for 3 months – that is not just poor judgement, but outright incompetence and lack of appreciation on the severity of the matter.
Imagine a PAP MP lied in parliament, and it took 3 months of grilling by WP to finally get admittance from the PAP that one of their MP lied – can you accept that? Regardless the reasoning?
This is no difference from the Aljunied, “ownself sign cheque for ownself” scandal and other ridiculous bullshit like “did not open tender for contractors then declare to the people, during election rally no less, that no one wants to work for Aljunied TC”. Blatant incompetence.
For a person who grew up in Hougang and supported WP for at least 2 decades (since as a child) – this Raeesah saga is outright nonsensical. The conduct and refusal to be forthcoming, causing unnecessarily dragged out COP hearings by the WP leadership is shameful and distasteful.
It made me stand corrected on my opinion on Pritam Singh and his fellow leaders’ strategic judgement (which would be vital if you are to run a country), impartiality and ethical standing.
To allow “uncontrollable crying” to “blind / distract away” the severity and immediate actions towards the “confession of a parliamentary lie” is either “stupidly soft” – in which softness has no place in national politics; or explicitly illustrate the lack of appreciation of the quality of Raeesah Khan as a MP/person, her negative influence upon entire brand of WP and the tendency to just sweep stuffs under the rug (which with good judgement, would know, this is not the kindda thing you want to sweep)
To support WP under Pritam further would be to encourage dirty politics and to send a message to Singapore that – it is okay to keep quiet about a grave issue, as long as its politically beneficial to keep it under wrap for as long as possible – and then to play political word games even despite being under oath.
Sorry this is NOT the kindda politics I want in Singapore.
If people within the WP don’t wake up to these facts and mount some kindda leadership challenge to replace such political-incompetence – then Singapore is doomed to a one party state for a foreseeable future (which is not a good thing)
And please, PAP didnt set a trap at all – Raeesah made a folly, Pritam and gang build the trap themselves and jumped in. If PAP don’t act strongly against Raeesah and WP – then I would lose faith in PAP as well.
I really expected better and that WP would “change” after a change of leadership after the nonsense of the AHTC saga… end up, a tiny little hiccup, and can manage until become can be criminal investigated and potentially criminally charged (and thus losing their MP-ships).
I’m so so disappointed.
