Can media startups survive this age of cheapo readers?

It is interesting how so many media sites/ventures closed down after a few years of trying.

Its funny that everyone have the same “problem” of “lack of funding” – which is kindda of a revelation that: regardless how good you write – you aren’t providing sufficient value for the society to “pay you” for your “values created”

Content is king. But delivery is the queen. How content is created is important.

Just like this Walking Problem blog/podcast thingy – the delivery is shit, the content is probably shit as well. Thus I’m not expecting anyone to read it.

But when you go into “media” – then it is vital to find a niche that provides value at the least possible input/overhead – just like any media.

“Quality” at this day and age is questionable – against the unrelenting waves of fuck cheap stuff.

When would you buy that expensive local made table – when you can buy 10 from taobao/shopee/lazada that is made in China? The cost effectiveness and cost efficiency is something to ponder about.

Just as I had relaunched Defense Politics Asia (you can check it out here: Defense Politics Asia) – running it at minimal cost but at maximum value creation is constantly at the back of my mind, every single day, since I started working on the revamp.

Its also why it took a few months (mainly because I was busy with the youth league), before I am ready to relaunch DPA. If you arent thinking about revenue – then something is wrong – since media is a business as well.

All business is about revenue, cost and profit.

A good example of low quality but high value content, can be found with TribalFootball.com – their articles are dirt short and lame at times – full of “gossips” – but it works. There was a time I was addicted to their website.

Perhaps thats a possible direction too. But do anyone really know what is the solution?

SPH have no idea either – thats why they are going to resort to taking government money by becoming an NGO. (aka Cheat code)

Will DPA and any of my media ventures goes the way of the Middle Ground, or would it go the way of Mothership. Lets see.
